The strengthened RC beams exhibited superior energy absorption capacity, stiffness, and ductile response. The comparison of the experimental and predicted values shows that these two are in good agreement. In recent years, vinyl selenones were rediscovered as useful building blocks for new synthetic transformations. This review will highlight these advances in the field of multiple-bond-forming reactions, one-pot synthesis of carbo- and heterocycles, enantioselective construction of densely functionalized molecules, and total synthesis of natural products.Acinetobacter baumannii, one of the most significant nosocomial pathogens, is capable of producing structurally diverse capsular polysaccharides (CPSs) which are the primary receptors for A. baumannii bacteriophages encoding polysaccharide-degrading enzymes. To date, bacterial viruses specifically infecting A. baumannii strains belonging to more than ten various capsular types (K types) were isolated and characterized. In the present study, we investigate the biological properties, genomic organization, and virus-bacterial host interaction strategy of novel myovirus TaPaz isolated on the bacterial lawn of A. baumannii strain with a K47 capsular polysaccharide structure. The phage linear double-stranded DNA genome of 93,703 bp contains 178 open reading frames. Genes encoding two different tailspike depolymerases (TSDs) were identified in the phage genome. Recombinant TSDs were purified and tested against the collection of A. baumannii strains belonging to 56 different K types. One of the TSDs was demonstrated to be a specific glycosidase that cleaves the K47 CPS by the hydrolytic mechanism. The Menzerath law is considered to show an aspect of the complexity underlying natural language. This law suggests that, for a linguistic unit, the size (y) of a linguistic construct decreases as the number (x) of constructs in the unit increases. This article investigates this property syntactically, with x as the number of constituents modifying the main predicate of a sentence and y as the size of those constituents in terms of the number of words. Following previous articles that demonstrated that the Menzerath property held for dependency corpora, such as in Czech and Ukrainian, this article first examines how well the property applies across languages by using the entire Universal Dependency dataset ver. 2.3, including 76 languages over 129 corpora and the Penn Treebank (PTB). LY2584702 mouse The results show that the law holds reasonably well for x>2. Then, for comparison, the property is investigated with syntactically randomized sentences generated from the PTB. These results show that the property is almost reproducible even from simple random data. Further analysis of the property highlights more detailed characteristics of natural language.Folate receptor beta (FRβ) is a folate binding receptor expressed on myeloid lineage hematopoietic cells. FRβ is commonly expressed at high levels on malignant blasts in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), as well as on M2 polarized tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in the tumor microenvironment of many solid tumors. Therefore, FRβ is a potential target for both direct and indirect cancer therapy. We demonstrate that FRβ is expressed in both AML cell lines and patient-derived AML samples and that a high-affinity monoclonal antibody against FRβ (m909) has the ability to cause dose- and expression-dependent ADCC against these cells in vitro. Importantly, we find that administration of m909 has a significant impact on tumor growth in a humanized mouse model of AML. Surprisingly, m909 functions in vivo with and without the infusion of human NK cells as mediators of ADCC, suggesting potential involvement of mouse macrophages as effector cells. We also found that TAMs from primary ovarian ascites samples expressed appreciable levels of FRβ and that m909 has the ability to cause ADCC in these samples. These results indicate that the targeting of FRβ using m909 has the potential to limit the outgrowth of AML in vitro and in vivo. Additionally, m909 causes cytotoxicity to TAMs in the tumor microenvironment of ovarian cancer warranting further investigation of m909 and its derivatives as therapeutic agents in patients with FRβ-expressing cancers. This research aims to explore the spatial pattern of vulnerability and resilience to natural hazards in northeastern Taiwan. We apply the spatially explicit resilience-vulnerability model (SERV) to quantify the vulnerability and resilience to natural hazards, including flood and debris flow events, which are the most common natural hazards in our case study area due to the topography and precipitation features. In order to provide a concise result, we apply the principal component analysis (PCA) to aggregate the correlated variables. Moreover, we use the spatial autocorrelation analysis to analyze the spatial pattern and spatial difference. We also adopt the geographically weighted regression (GWR) to validate the effectiveness of SERV. The result of GWR shows that SERV is valid and unbiased. Moreover, the result of spatial autocorrelation analysis shows that the mountain areas are extremely vulnerable and lack enough resilience. In contrast, the urban regions in plain areas show low vulnerability and high resilience. The spatial difference between the mountain and plain areas is significant. The topography is the most significant factor for the spatial difference. The high elevation and steep slopes in mountain areas are significant obstacles for socioeconomic development. This situation causes consequences of high vulnerability and low resilience. The other regions, the urban regions in the plain areas, have favorable topography for socioeconomic development. Eventually, it forms a scenario of low vulnerability and high resilience.Adult patients affected by myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) are at an increased risk of death by suicide. Based on the scientific literature and our clinical/research experiences, we identify risk and protective factors and provide a guide to assessing and managing suicidality in an outpatient medical setting. A clinical case is used to illustrate how information from this article can be applied. Characteristics of ME/CFS that make addressing suicidality challenging include absence of any disease-modifying treatments, severe functional limitations, and symptoms which limit therapies. Decades-long misattribution of ME/CFS to physical deconditioning or psychiatric disorders have resulted in undereducated healthcare professionals, public stigma, and unsupportive social interactions. Consequently, some patients may be reluctant to engage with mental health care. Outpatient medical professionals play a vital role in mitigating these effects. By combining evidence-based interventions aimed at all suicidal patients with those adapted to individual patients’ circumstances, suffering and suicidality can be alleviated in ME/CFS.
