The accumulation of iron-dependent lipid peroxides is one of the important causes of NAFLD. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of dehydroabietic acid (DA) on ferroptosis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) mice and its possible mechanisms. DA improved NAFLD and reduced triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and lipid peroxidation level and inhibited ferroptosis in the liver of HFD-induced mice. DA binds with Keap1 to form 3 stable hydrogen bonds at VAL512 and LEU557 and increased nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response elemen (ARE) luciferase activity. DA promoted the expression downstream of Nrf2 such as heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), glutathione (GSH) and its peroxidase 4 (GPX4), so as to eliminate the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduce lipid peroxides malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver. DA inhibited ferroptosis and increased the expression of key genes such as ferroptosis suppressor protein 1 (FSP1) in vitro and vivo. In all, DA may bind with Keap1, activate Nrf2-ARE, induce its target gene expression, inhibit ROS accumulation and lipid peroxidation, and reduce HFD-induced NAFLD.A new ctenophthalmid flea species, Ctenophthalmus (Ctenophthalmus) yesarii n. sp., is described and illustrated. This new species belonging to the fransmiti group is most closely related to Ctenophthalmus (Ctenophthalmus) fransmiti Suciu. Specimens of Ct. yesarii n. sp. were collected from the eastern broad-toothed field mouse, Apodemus mystacinus (Danford & Alston), in Balıkesir (Edremit district) province of Turkey. The number of Ctenophthalmus taxa known from Turkey now tallies 41 taxa (27 species and 14 subspecies). An increasing number of studies and experiments have demonstrated that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have a massive impact on various biological processes. Predicting potential associations between lncRNAs and diseases not only can improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of human diseases but also can facilitate the identification of biomarkers for disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. However, identifying such associations through experiments is costly and demanding, thereby prompting researchers to develop computational methods to complement these experiments. In this paper, we constructed a novel model called RWSF-BLP (a novel lncRNA-disease association prediction model using Random Walk-based multi-Similarity Fusion and Bidirectional Label Propagation), which applies an efficient random walk-based multi-similarity fusion (RWSF) method to fuse different similarity matrices and utilizes bidirectional label propagation to predict potential lncRNA-disease associations. Leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV) and 5-fold cross-validation (5-fold-CV) were implemented in the evaluation RWSF-BLP performance. Results showed that, RWSF-BLP has reliable AUCs of 0.9086 and 0.9115 ± 0.0044 under the framework of LOOCV and 5-fold-CV and outperformed other four canonical methods. Case studies on lung cancer and leukemia demonstrated that potential lncRNA-disease associations can be predicted through our method. Therefore, our method can accurately infer potential lncRNA-disease associations and may be a good choice in future biomedical research.

Chlamydial infection is a difficult-to-diagnose type of sexually transmitted disease that occurs mainly in young people. We report a case of bowel obstruction caused by intrapelvic adhesions formed by chlamydial infection.

This patient was a 23-year-old woman who had been suffering from acute abdominal pain. She had been previously treated several times for intrapelvic abscesses and had a history of chlamydial infection. Endometriosis was thought to be the cause of her pelvic abscess based on endoscopic findings. Computed tomography demonstrated a small bowel obstruction caused by a pelvic abscess. However, the diagnosis could not be confirmed. She underwent laparoscopic surgery and was diagnosed with bowel obstruction due to adhesion of chlamydial infection based on the intraoperative findings and Chlamydia trachomatis antibody test. She was discharged 5days after surgery.

It is necessary to consider the possibility of chlamydial infection as a cause for lower abdominal pain and unexplained bowel obstruction in female patients.

Paclitaxel DC-SIGN, a receptor for EV71, is widely distributed in dendritic cells and may influence the severity of HFMD caused by EV71 infection. This observational study attempts to explore whether single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in DC-SIGN are related to the severity of EV71-associated HFMD. Based on linkage disequilibrium and functional predictions, two DC-SIGN SNPs were selected and tested to explore their potential association with the severity of HFMD caused by EV71 infection. Two hundred sixteen Han Chinese children with HFMD caused by EV71 were enrolled to obtain clinical data, including the severity of HFMD, serum DC-SIGN levels, and DC-SIGN SNPs. We found a significant association between the rs7248637 polymorphism (A vs. G OR = 0.644, 95% CI = 0.515-0.806) and the severity of HFMD caused by EV71 infection, as well as the rs4804800 polymorphism (A vs. G OR = 1.539, 95% CI =1.229-1.928). These two DC-SIGN SNPs may have an effect on the severity of HFMD caused by EV71 infection.

To evaluate the effect of a beach tennis session on 24-h ambulatory blood pressure in adults with hypertension.

In this randomized crossover trial, 24 participants (12 men and 12 women) randomly performed two experimental sessions a beach tennis session and a non-exercise control session. The beach tennis session started with a standardized 5-min warm-up consisting of basic techniques, followed by three 12-min beach tennis matches with 2-min intervals between them. Heart rate was continuously recorded and rating of perceived exertion was assessed in the middle and at the end of each set during the beach tennis session. Enjoyment was also assessed after the beach tennis session. The control session was performed in seated rest. Both experimental sessions lasted 45min. Ambulatory blood pressure was measured continuously for 24 h after sessions.

    Systolic blood pressure (24-h 6mmHg, P = 0.008; daytime 6mmHg, P = 0.031; nighttime 6mmHg, P = 0.042) and diastolic blood pressure (24-h 3mmHg, P = 0.021; daytime 3mmHg, P = 0.
