    Telementoring is one of the applications of telemedicine capable of bringing highly experienced surgeons to areas lacking expertise. In the current study, we aimed to assess a novel telementoring application during the learning curve of transurethral enucleation of the prostate using bipolar energy (TUEB).

    A telementoring system was developed by our engineering department. This application was used to mentor ten prospective cases of TUEB performed by an expert endourologist (novice to the TUEB). A questionnaire was filled by the operating surgeon and the mentor to provide subjective evaluation of the telementoring system. Finally, the outcomes of these patients were compared to a control group consisting of ten consecutive patients performed by the mentor.

    Ten consecutive TUEB were performed using this telementoring application. Delayed and interrupted connection were experienced in two and one patients, respectively; however, their effect was minor, and they did not compromise the safety of the procedu training with the mentor and trainee being in the operative room. To examine the biochemical mechanisms underlying this phenomenon the lipid composition and metabolite profiling of mycelia subjected to freezing and thawing were investigated. An analysis is made of the growth rate and metabolism of “daughter” cultures derived from a frozen mycelia. According to the results, sphingolipids and water-soluble metabolites such as mannitol, glycerol, sugar alcohols, some amino- and organic acids are able to function as protective compounds providing a cross-resistance between heat shock and freeze-thaw stress in S. lacrymans.

    Surgically confirmed nerve injuries were retrospectively evaluated. Appearances of the nerve injury in the available imaging planes were reviewed by two readers. Associations between presence and size of neuroma with time from injury were analyzed.

    Injuries of 29 digital nerves (3 incomplete lacerations, 17 complete lacerations, 6 with 7 stump neuromas, 3 neuromas-in-continuity) noted on ultrasound were surgically confirmed. Among the 20 lacerations, long-axis images were obtained in 15, of which 10 depicted the injury and 4 did not. Among the 10 depicting the injury in long axis, 2 showed a discrete gap, and 7 showed the nerve obscured by laceration tissue without a gap. In short axis, the nerve injury was visible in all 20, and nerve laceration was seen as a discrete gap in 2, and obscuration by laceration tissue in 14. Neuromas were hypoechoic and well-defined. There was a positive association between time and presence of neuroma (OR = 1.3, p = 0.002). Correlations between time and cross-sectional area (r

    Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV). Cytology-based national screening programs have reduced the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer. Different hrHPV subtypes have different carcinogenic potentials. This study evaluated the distribution of different types of hrHPV relative to age in cervical cancer and its precursor lesions.

    HPV testing was performed between November 2018 and February 2020 using the Abbott RealTime high-risk HPV assay on an Abbott m2000sp instrument. This assay separately detects HPV-16, HPV-18, and a pool of 12 additional hrHPV types (HPV-31, -33, -35, -39, -45, -51, -52, -56, -58, -59, -66, and -68).

    The study included 652 women with HPV samples and biopsies of the cervix or histology samples obtained during surgery. In all, 30.8% (95% CI, 27.3-34.6%) were HPV-negative. Among HPV-positive women, HPV-16, HPV-18, and “HPV other” types were found in 33.5, 4.4, and 49.4%, respectively.
