gles (p=0.000) and of those who knew a contraceptive method (p=0.003) expressed the intention to use contraception. Conclusion combatting the use of street drugs and securing the right to safe voluntary abortion are necessary to limit complications due to clandestine abortions.Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disorder associated with the Philadelphia chromosome t (9;22) and the BCR-ABL fusion gene. The condition is relatively rare, accounting for 2.0% to 3.0% of childhood leukemia cases. CML has historically been a triphasic disease. Most patients are diagnosed in chronic phase. Without treatment, it inevitably progresses into a more aggressive accelerated phase and blast crisis. Some proportion of CML cases of blastic transformation develop an extramedullary disease that involves rarely central nervous system. This report describe an extremely rare case of 13-year-old girl with CML and extramedullary blast crisis in the central nervous system. Treatment options and monitoring of disease response are discussed. Objective Laser acupuncture has become increasingly attractive in clinical practice, especially for patients with needle phobias well as elderly people and children. However, literature concerning the safety of laser acupuncture has been limited. This systematic review synthesizes the current available literature on the safety of laser acupuncture. Methods Ovid MEDLINE,® Epub Ahead of Print, In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations Daily, Ovid Embase, Scopus, and EBM Reviews-Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched for available randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on laser acupuncture. Safety data were extracted from the included studies. Adverse events (AEs) data were extracted and assessed in terms of severity and causality. Results Of 737 articles, 21 RCTs were included. The majority of these RCTs reported that laser acupuncture was safe, without AEs; 6 trials reported AEs (including tingling, pain flare-ups, and transient fatigue). All AEs were mild and resolved spontaneously within 24 hours. The causal relationship between AEs and laser acupuncture was felt to be “certain” in 4 studies, “probable” in 1 study, and “possible” in 1 study. AEs were collected and monitored by evaluation methods in 7 trials 5 with AE questionnaires, 1 with a checklist, and 1 with oral reports. Conclusions Laser acupuncture appears to be a safe therapy associated with few mild and transient AEs. However, given the heterogeneity of current studies, large, well-designed placebo-controlled RCTs with rigorous evaluation methods are needed to assess the safety of laser acupuncture more completely. This clinical study reports a case of rectus sheath hematoma in a 32-year-old woman with a pregnancy at 33 weeks of gestation, who developed acute right-sided abdominal pain following anticoagulant administration for pulmonary embolism. The rectus sheath hematoma was identified during an emergency cesarean section initiated due to severe fetal bradycardia. The present case would have been easy to manage prenatally if the presence of rectus sheath hematoma had been added as a differential diagnosis. For future cases, timely recognition and therapy could help prevent premature cesarean delivery.Mediastinal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are very rare. They have been estimated to account for approximately 2%-4% of all anterior mediastinal neoplasms. Carcinoid tumors are a type of NET that can occur in a number of locations. selleck kinase inhibitor They arise from endocrine amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation cells that can be found in organs such as the lungs. In general, they are slow growing tumors but are nevertheless capable of metastasizing. We present the case of a carcinoid tumor of the anterior mediastinum in a 38-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a 4-month history of worsening breathless and cough. Definitive diagnosis was based on histopathological examination and immunophenotypic markers.Temporary balloon occlusion techniques have been described to redirect blood flow during hepatic chemo- and radioembolization. A 69 years old male with pathologically proven multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma involving all the liver segments except segments 2 and 3. We temporarily occlude segment 2/3 branch with the microvascular plug (MVP) to safely deliver the Y90 glass microspheres through the multiple small segment 4 branches. Distal occlusion using MVP may provide a valuable, cheaper and readily available tool in cases of unfavorable anatomy to divert blood flow and avoid non target delivery of Chemo or Radioembolic agents.Malformations of the portal venous system consist of congenital and acquired anomalies. Congenital portosystemic shunts represent rare vascular developmental anomalies that allow partial or complete diversion of blood flow from the portal venous system to the systemic venous system, bypassing the liver. Congenital portosystemic shunts may be associated with malformations or congenital absence of the portal vein, and it was first described by John Abernethy in 1793. Most cases are diagnosed in early childhood, but some congenital shunts may remain asymptomatic and are encountered incidentally because of the widespread use of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In this report, we discuss the case of a 40-year-old female who presented to the Emergency Department with right upper quadrant pain, nausea, and vomiting. Clinical presentation and abdominal computed tomography angiography were consistent with the diagnosis of calculous cholecystitis and congenital absence of portal vein with intrahepatic portosystemic shunts. We discuss the importance of radiology in diagnosing such incidental malformations, coupled with a review of the current literature on this topic.Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) is a rare complication of Takayasu’s Arteritis. A 54-year-old, right-handed woman presented with Lilliputian visual hallucinations, postprandial abdominal pain, blurred vision and headaches. She then had a tonic-clonic seizure. Neuroimaging revealed characteristic white matter oedema of the occipital lobes, in keeping with PRES. Renal infarcts and abnormalities of the abdominal aorta, subclavian, mesenteric, and internal carotid arteries were demonstrated on further imaging. The combination of hypertension, absent peripheral pulses, postprandial claudication, and imaging abnormalities of the aorta as well as its branches, lead to the diagnosis of PRES secondary to Takayasu’s Arteritis. Treatment with oral steroids resulted in complete resolution of the patient’s symptoms and abnormalities found on CT and MRI brain imaging. Takayasu’s Arteritis is a rare vasculitis, more common in women and PRES is an unusual complication. Symptoms of PRES may include headache, seizures, hallucinations, confusion, and altered consciousness.
