ce systematic review highlights the feasibility for coupling neuroscience with driving simulation to study the neurocorrelates of driving behaviors in the context of young drivers and neuromaturation. Findings show that, to date, most research has focused on examining brain correlates and driving behaviors related to contributing factors for fatal motor vehicle crashes. However, there remains a considerable paucity of research designed to understand underlying brain mechanisms that might otherwise facilitate greater understanding of individual variability of normative and risky driving behavior within the young driving population.Hyperbolic Cooper-pair polaritons (HCP) in cuprate superconductors are of fundamental interest due to their potential for providing insights into the nature of unconventional superconductivity. Here, we critically assess an experimental approach using near-field imaging to probe HCP in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x (Bi-2212) in the presence of graphene surface plasmon polaritons (SPP). Our simulations show that inherently weak HCP features in the near-field can be strongly enhanced when coupled to graphene SPP in layered graphene/hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)/Bi-2212 heterostructures. This enhancement arises from our multilayered structures effectively acting as plasmonic cavities capable of altering collective modes of a layered superconductor by modifying its electromagnetic environment. The degree of enhancement can be selectively controlled by tuning the insulating spacer thickness with atomic precision. Finally, we verify the expected renormalization of room-temperature graphene SPP using near-field infrared imaging. SBC-115076 Our modeling, augmented with data, attests to the validity of our approach for probing HCP modes in cuprate superconductors.Mutations in the human PANK2 gene are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN) and result in low levels of coenzyme-A (CoA) in the CNS due to impaired production of phosphopantothenic acid (PPA) from vitamin B5. Restoration of central PPA levels by delivery of exogenous PPA is a recent strategy to reactivate CoA biosynthesis in PKAN patients. Fosmetpantotenate is an oral PPA prodrug. We report here the development of a new PANk2-/- knockout model that allows CoA regeneration in brain cells to be evaluated and describe two new series of cyclic phosphate prodrugs of PPA capable of regenerating excellent levels of CoA in this system. A proof-of-concept study in mouse demonstrates the potential of this new class of prodrugs to deliver PPA to the brain following oral administration and confirms incorporation of the prodrug-derived PPA into CoA.Be it for essential everyday applications such as bright light-emitting devices or to achieve Bose-Einstein condensation, materials in which high densities of excitons recombine radiatively are crucially important. However, in all excitonic materials, exciton-exciton annihilation (EEA) becomes the dominant loss mechanism at high densities. Typically, a macroscopic parameter named EEA coefficient (CEEA) is used to compare EEA rates between materials at the same density; higher CEEA implies higher EEA rate. Here, we find that the reported values of CEEA for 140 different materials is inversely related to the single-exciton lifetime. Since during EEA one exciton must relax to ground state, CEEA is proportional to the single-exciton recombination rate. This leads to the counterintuitive observation that the exciton density at which EEA starts to dominate is higher in a material with larger CEEA. These results broaden our understanding of EEA across different material systems and provide a vantage point for future excitonic materials and devices.High-pressure experiments were conducted to investigate the stability and phase transition of methane hydrate (MH) in the water-methane-ammonia system at room-to-high temperatures employing Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction, in combination with an externally heated diamond anvil cell. The results revealed that, at room temperature, MH undergoes phase transitions from MH-I to MH-II at ∼1.0 GPa and from MH-II to MH-III at ∼2.0 GPa. These transition behaviors are consistent with those in the water-methane system, which indicates that ammonia has a negligible effect on a series of phase transitions of MH. Contrarily, a sequential in situ Raman spectroscopy revealed that ammonia affects the stability of MH-III under high pressure and high temperature the dissociation temperature of MH-III was more than 10 K lower in the water-methane-ammonia system than in the water-methane system. These findings aid in improving the internal structural models of icy bodies and estimating the origin of their atmospheric methane.A practical, convenient, and highly selective method of synthesizing β-ketonitriles from the Pd-catalyzed addition of organoboron reagents to dinitriles has been developed. This method provides excellent functional-group tolerance, a broad scope of substrates, and the convenience of using commercially available substrates. The method is expected to show further utility in future synthetic procedures.Synthesis of type I LacNAc (Galβ1 → 3GlcNAc) oligosaccharides usually suffers from low yields. We herein report the efficient synthesis of type I LacNAc oligosaccharides by chemoselective glycosylation. With 16 relative reactivity values (RRVs) measured thiotoluenyl-linked disaccharide donors and acceptors, chemoselective glycosylations were investigated to obtain optimal conditions. In these reactions, the RRV difference between the donors and acceptors had to be more than 6311 to obtain type I LacNAc tetrasaccharides in 72-86% yields, with minimal occurrence of aglycon transfer. The threshold of RRV difference was further applied to plan the synthesis of longer glycans. Because it is challenging to measure the RRVs of tetrasaccharides, anomeric proton chemical shifts were utilized to predict the corresponding RRVs, which consequently explained the outcome of glycosylations for the synthesis of type I LacNAc hexasaccharides. The result supported the idea that elongation of glycan chains has to proceed from the reducing to the nonreducing end for a better yield.
