Therefore, we aimed to further study the association between these two parameters. Methods The present study is an observational retrospective cohort study. A total of 726 participants who had threatened abortion from a hospital in Guangdong, China, were included in this study from 17th August 2011 to 30th October 2018. The exposure variable and the outcome variable were serum progesterone measured at baseline and early pregnancy outcome, respectively. Covariates involved in this study included patients’ basic demographics, obstetric history, and clinical information. Results A negative association and a saturation effect were detected between serum progesterone and the first trimester pregnancy outcome. When progesterone less then 90.62 nmol/L, an increase in 1 nmol/L of serum progesterone was associated with 3% decrease of the risk of miscarriage (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.95-0.98). Conclusion There was a greater risk of abortion when the serum progesterone level was less than 90.62 nmol/L. Our findings can better assist the clinician in understanding patients’ conditions and making medical decisions. Copyright © 2020 Yongshi Deng et al.The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of auricular vagus nerve stimulation, applied in conjunction with an exercise treatment program, on pain and life quality in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). To achieve the study objectives, 60 female patients between the ages 18 and 50, with diagnosed FMS according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2010 diagnostic criteria, were randomly divided into 2 groups of 30. The first group was assigned 20 sessions of a home-based exercise program, while the second group was assigned 20 sessions of auricular vagus nerve stimulation and 20 sessions of a home-based exercise program. Patients were assessed before and after the treatments using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, Beck Depression Scale for depression, Beck Anxiety Scale for anxiety, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) for functional evaluation, and Short Form-36 (SF-36) for life quality. In this randomized controlled trial, comparisons within the groups revealed that both groups had statistically significant improvements in pain, depression, anxiety, functionality, and life quality scores (p less then 0.05), while comparisons across the groups revealed that the group experiencing the vagus nerve stimulation had no statistically significant differences between the baseline scores, except for those of SF-36’s subparameters of physical function, social functionality, and pain. In fact, comparisons across the groups after the interventions revealed that the group experiencing the vagus nerve stimulation had better scores but not statistically significant. From analysis of this data, we observed that vagus nerve stimulation in FMS treatment did not give additional benefit together with exercise, except for three subparameters of SF-36. It was identified that further studies which separately investigate the effects of vagus nerve stimulation and exercise on FMS with longer follow-up periods and an increased number of patients are needed. We investigated the role of miR-124-5p in lipopolysaccharide-involved epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) dysfunction and explored the potential target of miR-124-5p. We observed the lower expression of miR-124-5p after the administration of MSCs-CM, and the overexpression or inhibition of miR-124-5p regulated epithelial sodium channel α-subunit (α-ENaC) expression at protein levels in mouse alveolar type 2 epithelial (AT2) cells. We confirmed that α-ENaC is one of the target genes of miR-124-5p through dual luciferase assay and Ussing chamber assay revealed that miR-124-5p inhibited amiloride-sensitive currents associated with ENaC activity in intact H441 monolayers. Our results demonstrate that miR-124-5p can decrease the expression and function of α-ENaC in alveolar epithelial cells by targeting the 3′-UTR. The involvement of MSCs-CM in lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury cell model could be related to the downregulation of miR-124-5p on α-ENaC, which may provide a new target for the treatment of acute lung injury. However, the most effective time period, that is, prenatal vs. postnatal, to attain this effect has not been determined. Objective To determine the most effective developmental timing of EA’s protective effect against PNE-induced lung phenotype in the exposed offspring. Methods Pregnant rats were given (1) saline (“S” group); (2) nicotine (“N” group); (3) nicotine + EA, exclusively prenatally (“Pre-EA” group); (4) nicotine + EA, exclusively postnatally (“Post-EA,” group); and (5) nicotine + EA, administered both prenatally and postnatally (“Pre- and Post-EA” group).
