The relationship between the representative nodal characteristics-nodal betweenness and clinical parameters was assessed using partial correlation analysis. Results Patients with FC showed increased nodal characteristics in the left superior frontal gyrus (orbital part), right middle frontal gyrus (orbital part), and right anterior cingulate and paracingulate (P less then 0.05, corrected for false discovery rate) and decreased nodal characteristics in the left caudate and left thalamus (P less then 0.05, corrected for false discovery rate) compared with HS. The duration of FC was negatively correlated with the nodal betweenness of the left thalamus (r = -0.354, P = 0.04, corrected for false discovery rate). Conclusion The results indicated the alternations in WM networks of patients with FC and suggested the abnormal visceral sensation processing in the CNS from the perspective of large-scale brain WM network.Blue wavelength light has been used successfully as a treatment method for certain mood disorders, but, the underlying mechanisms behind the mood enhancing effects of light remain poorly understood. We investigated the effects of a single dose of 30 min of blue wavelength light (n = 17) vs. amber wavelength light (n = 12) exposure in a sample of healthy adults on subsequent resting-state functional and directed connectivity, and associations with changes in state affect. Individuals who received blue vs. amber wavelength light showed greater positive connectivity between the right amygdala and a region within the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). In addition, using granger causality, the findings showed that individuals who received blue wavelength light displayed greater bidirectional information flow between these two regions relative to amber light. Furthermore, the strength of amygdala-DLPFC functional connectivity was associated with greater decreases in negative mood for the blue, but not the amber light condition. Blue light exposure may positively influence mood by modulating greater information flow between the amygdala and the DLPFC, which may result in greater engagement of cognitive control strategies that are needed to perceive and regulate arousal and mood.Neuromuscular disorders are rare diseases for which few therapeutic strategies currently exist. Assessment of therapeutic strategies efficiency is limited by the lack of biomarkers sensitive to the slow progression of neuromuscular diseases (NMD). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a tool of choice for the development of qualitative scores for the study of NMD. The recent emergence of quantitative MRI has enabled to provide quantitative biomarkers more sensitive to the evaluation of pathological changes in muscle tissue. However, in order to extract these biomarkers from specific regions of interest, muscle segmentation is mandatory. The time-consuming aspect of manual segmentation has limited the evaluation of these biomarkers on large cohorts. In recent years, several methods have been proposed to make the segmentation step automatic or semi-automatic. The purpose of this study was to review these methods and discuss their reliability, reproducibility, and limitations in the context of NMD. A particular attention has been paid to recent deep learning methods, as they have emerged as an effective method of image segmentation in many other clinical contexts.Background Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is the main cause of death and disability after intracranial aneurysm rupture. Previous studies have shown that smoking can lead to DCI after intracranial aneurysm rupture. However, some recent studies have shown that nicotine, as the main ingredient of tobacco, can cause cerebral vasodilation. This view has led to a debate about the relationship between smoking and DCI. This study aims to determine the relationship between smoking and DCI. JAK inhibitors in development Methods A systematic literature search was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, and Embase online databases were searched for studies published up to September 2020. All studies related to smoking and DCI were included in the analysis. The R and RevMan software were used for data analysis, and random or fixed model analysis was selected depending on the degree of heterogeneity. Publication bias was examined by using the Begg-Mazumdar test and using contour-enhanced funnel plots with trim method. Results A total of eight original articles (12 cohorts) with 10,722 patients were included in this meta-analysis. There were statistically significant higher rates of DCI in the smoking group than in the non-smoking group (RRtotal = 1.16, 95%CI 1.05-1.27). After heterogeneity among cohorts was removed by sensitivity analysis, there was still a statistically significant difference in the incidence of DCI between the smoking and non-smoking groups (RRtotal = 1.13, 95%CI 1.07-1.20). Conclusions Although the effects of nicotine as the main component of tobacco are unclear in terms of cerebral vessels, the present study suggests that smoking is a risk factor for DCI in patients with ruptured aneurysm.Down syndrome disintegrative disorder (DSDD) is a condition of unknown etiology characterized by acute cognitive decline, catatonia, insomnia, and autistic features in individuals with Down syndrome. A prior report of four patients with DSDD suggested a potential autoimmune etiology based on the presence of autoantibodies and on successful treatment with immunotherapy that included intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). Herein, we present the case of an 8-year old girl who developed acute cognitive decline to a dementia-like state, insomnia, catatonia, and autistic features. In contrast to the four patients with DSDD above, she had no evidence of autoimmunity and presented at a younger age. Given the gravity of her acute deterioration and the exclusion of other etiologies, she was treated with immunotherapy presumptively. She responded with near complete resolution of symptoms, but demonstrated a pattern of mild decline as she approached each monthly dosing of IVIG and steroids, reversed by treatment. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) was therefore added, with stability throughout the month and the ability to taper off IVIG.
