The detailed structures of the polymers have been suggested by mass spectrometric analysis of the obtained polymers and oligomers, which suggested that a phenyl group of tetraphenyltin has been introduced to an initiating end of the polymer chain. Mass spectrometric analysis also provided information about the termination processes of the polymerization. The experimental results strongly suggested that the polymerization of diphenylacetylenes using tungsten(VI) chloride and tetraphenyltin proceeds through a migratory insertion mechanism rather than the long-accepted metathesis mechanism.Identification and characterization of nodules in soft tissue, including their size, shape, and location, provide a basis for tumor identification. This study proposes an inverse finite-element (FE) based computational framework, for characterizing the size of examined tissue sample and detecting the presence of embedded tumor nodules using instrumented palpation, without a priori anatomical knowledge. The inverse analysis was applied to a model system, the human prostate, and was based on the reaction forces which can be obtained by trans-rectal mechanical probing and those from an equivalent FE model, which was optimized iteratively, by minimizing an error function between the two cases, toward the target solution. The tumor nodule can be identified through its influence on the stress state of the prostate. The effectiveness of the proposed method was further verified using a realistic prostate model reconstructed from magnetic resonance (MR) images. The results show the proposed framework to be capable of characterizing the key geometrical indices of the prostate and identifying the presence of cancerous nodules. Therefore, it has potential, when combined with instrumented palpation, for primary diagnosis of prostate cancer, and, potentially, solid tumors in other types of soft tissue.Tropical ecosystems that exist on mountainous terrain harbour enormous species and functional diversity. Many local factors determine whether channels are actively downcutting, in relative steady-state, or aggrading. It is possible to assess the trajectory of catchment-level landscape evolution utilising lidar-based models, but the effect of these trajectories on biogeochemical gradients and organisation of canopy traits across climatic and geochemical conditions remain uncertain. We use canopy trait maps to assess how variable erosion rate within catchments influence hillslope controls on canopy traits across Mt. Kinabalu, Borneo. While foliar nutrient content generally increased along hillslopes, these relationships were moderated by catchment responses to changing erosion pressure, with active downcutting associated with greater turnover in canopy traits along hillslopes. These results provide an understanding of geomorphic process controls on forest functional diversity.Grounded in self-determination theory (SDT), the purpose of this study is to analyze how academic outcomes, such as hedonic well-being and achievement, are affected by the students’ reasons for attending university. Additionally, the extent to which eudemonic well-being predicts academic outcomes beyond the types of motivation is also explored. In an initial sample of 3,392 first-year students, the motivation and well-being variables were measured at the beginning of the course (Time 1); and after the end of the academic year (Time 2) the academic achievement variables were collected from 366 participants belonging to the initial sample. Hierarchical regression analyses reveal that the types of motivation and eudemonic well-being differentially predicted hedonic well-being; the results related to academic achievement show the predictive power of intrinsic motivation and amotivation although these remain less conclusive. The implications for both research and practice are included.A tumor metastasis within another tumor is known as tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM). We report a 43-year-old woman who presented with hypermenorrhea and an abdominal mass. She had history of a soft tissue tumor on her left ankle at 38 years of age. Laboratory data showed slight elevation of CA125 and no other abnormal findings and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a circumscribed margin mass in the uterine fundus. We diagnosed the mass as benign leiomyoma and performed total laparoscopic hysterectomy. Postoperative pathological examination revealed TTM of synovial sarcoma within the uterine leiomyoma. A database search identified 29 cases of TTM within uterine leiomyoma. The donor tumor was mostly breast cancer (in 23 cases). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a sarcoma TTM to a uterine leiomyoma. Despite the difficulty of preoperative diagnosis, TTM should be considered during the treatment approach for a patient with leiomyoma and a history of malignant tumors.Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common malignant tumour in the adult brain and hard to treat.
