Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a variety of biliary epithelial tumors involving intrahepatic, perihilar and distal bile duct. It is the most common malignant bile duct tumor in the liver and the second most common primary liver cancer, whose molecular mechanism not fully understood. Specifically, the relationship between CCA and chondroitin polymerizing factor (CHPF) is still not clear. In this study, detection of clinical specimens was performed to preliminarily study the role of CHPF in CCA. CCA cells with CHPF knockdown were constructed for in vitro study, which was also used in the construction of mice xenograft model for investigating the role of CHPF in the development of CCA. The results demonstrated that CHPF was significantly upregulated in CCA tissues compared with normal tissues. High expression of CHPF was correlated with more advanced tumor grade. Moreover, knockdown of CHPF significantly inhibited cell proliferation, cell migration, promoted cell apoptosis and arrest cell cycle in G2 phase in vitro, as well as suppressed tumor growth in vivo. In conclusion, CHPF was identified as a tumor promotor in the development and metastasis of CCA, which may provide a novel therapeutic target for the targeted therapy against CCA.

Treatment using add-on antidepressants with antipsychotic drugs in negative symptoms of schizophrenia has been reviewed recently in comprehensive meta-analyses. Tranylcypromine (TCP), an irreversible monoamine oxidase (MAO)-A/B inhibitor applied in treatment resistant depression, was not included because of strict requirements for quality of study design. To get a clear picture of available evidence for this resource in the treatment of schizophrenia, we conducted a review and meta-analysis of add-on TCP in the treatment of predominant negative symptoms of schizophrenia (negative schizophrenia).

Seven controlled studies of add-on TCP in schizophrenia with predominant negative symptoms were found in a search of multiple databases. A subset of four studies of the prospective and parallel comparison of add-on TCP with antipsychotic drugs vs. antipsychotic drug monotherapy and meeting minimum quality criteria formed the primary meta-analysis. The effect size was calculated as the natural logarithm of the oddsf data for add-on TCP with second-generation antipsychotics.

New studies are needed for add-on TCP with antipsychotic drugs in schizophrenia with predominant negative symptoms. Trials of this treatment may be possible in rare and selected cases. The therapeutic effect of add-on TCP may be explained by a strong dopaminergic activity.

A total of 69 publications were included in the review. We found a cumulative incidence of HZ ranging from 2.9-19.5 cases per 1,000 population and an incidence rate of HZ ranging from 5.23-10.9 cases per 1,000 person-years. The cumulative incidence (3.22-11.2 versus 2.44-8.0 cases per 1,000 population) and incidence rates (6.05-12.8 versus 4.30-8.5 cases per 1,000 person-years) were higher in females than males. Studies revealed a trend of increasing incidence of HZ with increasing age and over time. Variations in incidence estimates can be attributed to the various study designs, case ascertainments, age distributions of the population and year of the study. HZ is associated with a substantial disease burden and is expected to increase due to population aging. To evaluate rotavirus (RV) disease burden and circulating strains of RV among Chinese children younger than 5-years old who had diarrhea from 2011 to 2018. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI and WANFANG databases were systematically searched to identify studies that reported RV prevalence in mainland China. After data extraction, a fixed-effects model or a random-effects model was applied to estimate RV positivity and proportions of G and P types. Statistical analysis was conducted using R software. We initially reviewed 1323 studies, and identified 69 studies that were eligible. The overall proportion of RV gastroenteritis (RVGE) among children under 5-years old who presented with diarrhea and sought medical care was 34.0% (95% CI 31.3, 36.8), and RV positivity was higher among inpatients (39.7%) than outpatients (23.9%). Western areas of China had the highest proportion of RVGE (42.7%), and RV positivity was highest for children who were 6 months-old to 2 years-old. The most prevalent G types were G3 (26.1%), G9 (17.5%), and G1 (12.8%), the most prevalent P type was P[8] (56.8%) and the most prevalent G-P combination was G9P[8] (20.9%). RV continues to be a main cause of acute gastroenteritis in Chinese children who are younger than 5 years old. Following the introduction of an RV vaccine in 2011, monitoring of the disease burden of RV diarrhea and circulating strains in China remain important for assessments of vaccine efficacy.

Telemedicine in ophthalmology, and specifically in retinal diseases, has made significant advancements in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic has launched telehealth into a new era by creating demand from patients and physicians alike, while breaking down previous insurance, reimbursement, access and educational barriers.

This paper reviews mulitple studies demonstrating the use of telemedicine in managing various retinal conditions before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moving forward, promising new devices and models of care ensure that tele-retinal care will continue to expand and become a vital part of how we screen, diagnose and monitor retinal diseases.

The underlying mechanisms are thought related to dysbiosis of the gut microbiome. find more We conducted a systematic review of the association between antibiotics and disruption of the pediatric gut microbiome. Searches used MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science. Eligible studies association between antibiotics and gut microbiome dysbiosis; children 0-18 years; molecular techniques of assessment; outcomes of microbiome richness, diversity or composition. Quality assessed by Newcastle-Ottawa Scale or Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. Meta-analysis where possible. A total of 4,668 publications identified 12 in final analysis (5 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), 5 cohort studies, 2 cross-sectional studies). Microbiome richness was measured in 3 studies, species diversity in 6, and species composition in 10. Quality of evidence was good or fair. 5 studies found a significant reduction in diversity and 3 a significant reduction in richness.
