The third session was without a learning task (baseline sleep). The dependence on SO-spindle coupling and SO-slope during baseline sleep of so-tDCS efficacy on retention performance were investigated.
Stimulation efficacy on overnight retention of declarative memories was associated with nesting of slow spindles to SO trough in deep non-rapid eye movement baseline sleep. Steepness and direction of SO slope in baseline sleep were features indicative for stimulation efficacy.
Findings underscore a functional relevance of activity during the SO up-to-down state transition for memory consolidation and provide support for distinct consolidation mechanisms for types of declarative memories.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) treatment failures and recurrences are common. To identify features associated with treatment response, we compared vaginal microbiota and host ectocervical transcriptome before and after oral metronidazole therapy.
Women with BV (Bronx, NY and Thika, Kenya) received 7 days of oral metronidazole at enrollment (Day 0) and underwent genital tract sampling of microbiome (16S rRNA gene sequencing), transcriptome (RNAseq), and immune mediator concentrations on Day 0, 15 and 35.
Bronx participants were more likely than Thika participants to clinically respond to metronidazole (19/20 vs 10/18, respectively, p=0.0067) and by changes in microbiota composition and diversity. After dichotomizing the cohort into responders and non-responders by change in alpha diversity between Day 35 and Day 0, we identified transcription differences associated with chemokine signaling (q=0.002) and immune system process (q=2.5e-8) that differentiated responders from non-responders were present at enrollment. Responders had significantly lower levels of CXCL9 in cervicovaginal lavage on Day 0 (p< 0.007) and concentrations of CXCL9, CXCL10 and MCP-1 increased significantly between Day 0 and Day 35 in responders versus non-responders.
Response to metronidazole is characterized by significant changes in chemokines and related transcripts suggesting that treatments that promote these pathways may prove beneficial.

Accumulating evidence suggests that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may be effective for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our systematic review aimed to quantify the effectiveness and safety of HBOT in various IBD phenotypes.
We performed a proportional meta-analysis. Multiple databases were systematically searched from inception through November 2020 without language restriction. We included studies that reported effectiveness and/or safety of HBOT in IBD. Weighted summary estimates with 95% confidence intervals (Cis) were calculated for clinical outcomes for each IBD phenotype using random-effects models. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane evaluation handbook and National Institute of Health criteria.
Nineteen studies with 809 patients total were eligible 3 randomized controlled trials and 16 case series. Rates of clinical remission included 87% (95% CI, 10-100) for ulcerative colitis (n = 42), 88% (95% CI, 46-98) for luminal Crohn’s disease (CD, n = 8), 60% (95% CI, 40-76) for perianal CD (n = 102), 31% (95% CI, 16-50) for pouch disorders (n = 60), 92% (95% CI, 38-100) for pyoderma gangrenosum (n = 5), and 65% (95% CI, 10-97) for perianal sinus/metastatic CD (n = 7). Of the 12 studies that reported on safety, 15% of patients (n = 30) had minor adverse events. Study quality was low in the majority of studies due to an absence of comparator arms, inadequate description of concomitant interventions, and/or lack of objective outcomes.
Limited high-quality evidence suggests that HBOT is safe and associated with substantial rates of clinical remission for multiple IBD phenotypes. Well-designed randomized controlled trials are warranted to confirm the benefit of HBOT in IBD.

Extraction is the leading critical stage in the analysis of nutraceuticals. Ginkgo biloba (GB) has gained an interest because of its therapeutic usages.
Development of four cost effective extraction techniques for extraction of quercetin from GB in mixture of nutraceuticals sachet. These techniques are solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), inverted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (IDLLME) and QuEChERS.
Direct spectrophotometry was used to monitor the recovery of the standard quercetin throughout the optimization steps. HPLC-UV method of analysis was optimized to quantify the yields from the extracts present in the complicated sachets. The presented study was assessed by analytical eco-scale assessment (ESA) and National Environmental Method Index (NEMI) for greenness in comparison with literature.
Only SPE showed the best cleanup outcomes. ESA and NEMI showed an adequate greenness of proposed extraction protocol.
Quercetin (marker for GB) extraction from market nutraceutical sachets is considered an exemplary for analysis in quality control of nutraceuticals. Regarding the greenness results, the proposed method of extraction is grander even with adequate greenness as the extraction was one-step, in comparison with multi-steps in previously published protocols. Accordingly, it is recommended to be used in routine extraction and analysis of such kind of nutraceuticals.
Four extraction protocols had been developed. For GB ternary sachets, proper recovery was obtained from C18 SPE. The assessment of greenness of the proposed protocol guaranteed the superiority of the presented study. Safer sorbents and chemicals favor to be used for routine extraction of nutraceuticals.
